When I read this morning that Cameron Boyce died, a world collapsed. He played Carlos in the Descendants films, but most people also know him as Luke Ross from the series Jessie. Actually, I didn’t want to do this blog post until I’ve read all four Descendants‘ novels, but this blog post comes in honor of Cameron today.
The first part „Descendants The Isle of Lost“ takes place before the Descendants films.
This volume tells how Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay met and how she became friends. Above all, Mal and Evie, who are known as „best friends“ from the films, couldn’t stand each other at first.
Of course, the parents of Mal (Malificent), Evie (The Evil Queen), Carlos (Cruella de Vill) and Jay (Jafar) also play an important role in the book. You can see what influence they have on their children, but you can already see that there is something different in their children than your pure evil of their parents.
Of course, Auredon also plays a role in this book and you can find out how Ben came up with the idea of bringing exactly these „bad“ children to the Auredon Prep. I can only recommend the first volume, I liked it very much.
Questions that may have arisen from the film have been clarified, but even if you have not seen any of the „Descendants“ films, reading this book is no problem.
The second volume „Descendants Return to the Isle of the Lost“ takes place between the first and the second movie. Here I also recommend having seen the first film beforehand, otherwise there might be too many questions.
In this volume, the Isle of the Lost and Auredon are ravaged by earthquakes. A dragon is also seen attacking Camelot in Auredon. When Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay’s parents disappear, it is clear to most in Auredon who are to blame for everything. First and foremost, Mal mother, Malificent is suspected of being the culprit for all events.
In order to find their parents and to prove that they are not to blame for what happened, Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay flee back to the island of the lost.
You have to read it self if you want to find out if they will find their parents and who is behind the earthquake;)
I liked the first volume more but volume two was again interesting and fun. You got to know the four „heroes“ from the films a little better and I’m really looking forward to reading volumes three and four.
Overall, I can recommend the books to anyone who, of course, knows and likes the Descendants‘ movies. However, everyone who likes to read fairy tales and would like to know how things went on with the heroes and villains from the fairy tales.

Als ich heute morgen gelesen habe, dass Cameron Boyce gestorben ist, ist eine Welt zusammengebrochen. Er spielte den Carlos in den Descendants Filmen, aber auch als Luke Ross aus der Serie Jessie ist er den meisten ein Begriff.
Eigentlich wollte ich diesen Blogpost erst machen, wenn ich alle vier Descendants Novellen gelesen habe, doch zu Ehren von Cameron kommt heute dieser Blogpost.
Der erste Teil „Descendants The Isle of lost“ spielt vor den Descendants Filmen.
In diesem Band erfährt man, wie Mal, Evie, Carlos und Jay sich kennengelernt haben und wie sie Freunde wurde. Vor allem Mal und Evie, die man als „best friends“ aus den Filmen kennt, konnten sich am Anfang gar nicht leiden.
Natürlich spielen in dem Buch auch die Eltern von Mal (Malificent), Evie (Die Böse Königin), Carlos (Cruella de Vill) und Jay (Jafar) eine wichtige Rolle. Man sieht welchen Einfluss sie auf ihre Kinder haben, merkt aber schon, dass in ihren Kinder etwas anders schummert, als dein reine böse ihrer Eltern.
Natürlich spielt auch Auredon in diesem Buch eine Rolle und man erfährt, wie Ben überhaupt auf die Idee kam , genau diese „bösen“ Kinder auf die Auredon Prep zu holen. Ich kann den ersten Band wirklich nur empfehlen, mir hat er sehr gut gefallen.
Fragen, die vielleicht zuvor durch den Film entstanden sind, wurden geklärt, aber auch wenn man keinen der „Descendants“ Filme gesehen hat, ist es kein Problem dieses Buch zu lesen.
Der zweite Band „Descendants Return to the Isle of the lost“ spielt zwischen dem ersten und dem zweiten Film. Hier empfehle ich auch, den ersten Film vorher gesehen zu haben, da es sonst vielleicht zu viele Fragen auftauchen.
In diesen Band wird die Insel der Verloren und auch Auredon von Erdbeben heimgesucht. In Auredon wird außerdem ein Drache gesichtet, der Camelot angreift. Als dann auch noch die Eltern von Mal, Evie, Carlos und Jay verschwinden, ist für die meisten in Auredon klar, wer die Schuldigen für alles sind. Allen voran Mal Mutter, Malificent wird verdächtigt die Schuldige für alle Ereignisse zu sein.
Um ihre Eltern zu finden und zu beweisen, das diese an den Vorkommnissen keine Schuld haben, fliehen Mal, Evie, Carlos und Jay zurück auf die Insel der Verlorenen.
Ob sie ihre Eltern finden und wer hintern den Erdbeben steckt müsst ihr selber lesen 😉
Mir hat der ersten Band besser gefallen, aber auch Band zwei war wieder interessant und lustig. Man hat die vier „Helden“ aus den Filmen noch ein bisschen besser kennengelernt und ich freue mich schon sehr Band drei und vier zu lesen.
Die Bücher gibt es, meines Wissens, nur auf englisch, aber sie sind sehr leicht und einfach geschrieben, ich denke, sie eignen sich auch gut als Einstiegsbuch ins englische.
Insgesamt kann ich die Bücher jedem empfehlen, der natürlich die Descendants Filme kennt und mag. Allerdings auch jedem der gerne Märchen liest und wissen möchte, wie es mit den Helden und Schurken aus den Märchen weiterging.
