I bought „The Stars We Share“ from Rafe Posey on the day it was published. The book has spoken to me directly since I first read the blurb. I knew I needed the audio book as I found out that Christian Coulson is the narrator! He is my favorite narrator!
What can I say?
The book is amazing! I could identify with both protagonists, immediately! With Alec’s passion for flying and the stars, but also with June’s passion for puzzles and physics.
The book takes place between 1927 and 1967.
So we accompany the two protagonists as they grow up together, what they experience in World War II and how they deal with it in their own way and what effects this has on their relationship.
I understood the decisions of June and Alec very well, even though they were so different in some things. For example Alec wants a family, June not.
I don’t think it’s easy for anyone to come to terms with what happened during the war, especially if you’ve been to a German camp or worked for the secret service.
Christian Coulson’s rendition was again terrific, as I know it from him. He reproduced the feelings of the individual people very well and helped to empathize with the characters even better.
Furthermore, I found his pronunciation of the German words that came up sometimes really, really good, not everyone can do that! Good work Mr. Coulson!
This book is an absolute highlight of the year for me and I didn’t want the book to end. It’s really amazing and I think soon I’ll listen to it again.

Ich habe mir „The Stars We Share“ von Rafe Posey direkt am Erscheinungstag gekauft. Das Buch hat mich direkt angesprochen, seitdem ich das erste Mal den Klappentext gelesen habe. Als ich dann noch erfahren habe, dass mein Favorit Narrator Christian Coulson der Sprecher ist, war mir klar, ich brauche das Hörbuch!
Was kann ich sagen? Von der 1. Minute an hat mich das Hörbuch gepackt. Ich konnte mich mit beiden Protagonisten sofort identifizieren. Mit Alecs Leidenschaft für das Fliegen und die Sterne, aber auch mit Junes Leidenschaft für Rätsel und Physik.
Das Buch spielt zwischen 1927 und 1967.
Wir begleiten also die beiden Protagonisten, wie sie zusammen aufwachsen, was sie im 2. Weltkrieg erleben und wie sie damit auf ihre Weise fertig werden und welche Auswirkungen dies auf ihre Beziehung hat.
Ich fand das Buch sehr berührend und konnte die Handlungen und Entscheidungen von June und Alec sehr gut nachvollziehen, obwohl beide in einigen Dingen so unterschiedlich waren.
Ich denke, es ist für niemanden leicht, mit den Geschehnissen des Krieges fertig zu werden, vor allem wenn man in einem deutschen Lager war oder für den Geheimdienst gearbeitet hat.
Christian Coulsons Wiedergabe war wieder grandios, so wie ich es von ihm kenne. Er hat die Gefühle der einzelnen Personen sehr gut wiedergegeben und dazu beigetragen, sich noch besser in die Charaktere einzufühlen.
Des Weiteren fand ich seine Aussprache der einzelnen deutschen Wörter, die immer wieder vorkamen, wirklich sehr gut, das kann nicht jeder!
Dieses Buch ist ein absolutes Jahreshighlight für mich und ich wollte gar nicht das Buch endet, weshalb ich es mir regelrecht aufgeteilt habe.
